This looks like the smallest thing on the list and is regularly the biggest. People refuse a hospital stay, turn down respite, and stay in a house they cannot manage, because of an animal nobody has offered to look after.
It is worth asking about directly. Most people will not raise it themselves.
The one to sort early
If there is a hospital admission coming, or any stay away, arrange the animal first. It removes the objection nobody has said out loud, and it is far easier to organise before than during.
